5 Basic Bitch Tips n' Tricks to Keep Your Beauty Stash Organized
Sometimes it's okay to be basic.
When MakeSpace asked me how I organize and store my skincare and makeup, I was a bit stumped. At the time my stash had an "organized chaos" theme going on. But the post was the push I needed to get organized! And as I started organizing, I realized that my style is very basic. Gimme all the pinterest inspo because I am a basic ass bitch and I'm embracing it!
My vanity is still a work in progress but here are 5 things that have helped me upgrade my beauty storage game so far.
Mason jars come in all shapes and sizes
I know mason jars are one of those ultimate hipster cliches, but I can't help it, they're cheap, practical, and cute.
So far I've only got a few-- 4 of them to hold my makeup brushes and one shorter one to hold my Shiseido facial cotton pads. I've been looking for smaller ones in Target's bullseye playground section but haven't spotted any clear ones recently. As soon as I do I'll be snatching them up to store my rubber bands and bobby pins!
Now you have an excuse to buy those pretty craft boxes
You know the ones with colorful floral prints and cheesy sayings? I always spot these boxes at places like HomeGoods and Michaels... but could never justify purchasing them because I had no use for them. But now I do.
They're perfect for storing beauty products!
Instead of having a bagillion shopping bags cluttering my floor, I put all my new purchases or backups in one of those craft boxes. I also have a habit of keeping boxes of items I've already used and they're a lot more organized and take up a lot less space when organized into a box.
Recycling works too
Of course if you don't want to dish out $$ for cardboard boxes, you can always recycle the ones you already have. My personal favorites are gift boxes since they tend to be made of a heavier material and are often times printed.
Another basic blogger staple are recycled candle jars. If you follow any bloggers on Pinterest or Instagram, you're probably familiar with the requisite recycled Diptyque candle decor. You're not a real blogger until you have oneand I'll have one too some day jk I'm too cheap.
Acrylic organizers are your best friend
This one is ridiculously obvious but I had to mention it cause it's a basic bitch staple.
Acrylic organizers are a makeup addict's best friend since they can control a stash of any size. It doesn't matter if you have 10 items or a 100, there's an acrylic organizer out there for you. They're also perfect for growing or shrinking stashes. You can always add in or remove an organizer depending on what your needs are.
Personally I purchase mine from TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Nordstrom Rack, or Home Goods. They've got a generous selection and most of the organizers are under $10. If you don't live near any of those stores, Target and Amazon also offer a lot of affordable options. For something a little nicer and pricier, you can check out The Container Store or Muji.
Keep track of what's in your stash
It's really easy to lose track of what you're buying and what you already have. There have been a few times where I'm surprised to find some product in a random drawer because I totally forgot that I bought it. Tracking what you have via a table, digital or handwritten, is a total game changer.
A table also helps you recognize what areas of your stash are lacking and what areas of it are a bit out of control. For instance, I have waaaay too many face washes. Do I need 6 full sized face washes and 10+ minis and samples? No. But at least now I know I need to cull from my stash and not buy any more face washes.
Another key to tracking your stash is to remember where you store everything and to make sure it's a safe place (i.e. should you really be storing all your photosensitive serums right in front of the window? Nope!) MakeSpace provides on demand storage services in large cities across the US. Check out their self-storage locations here!
Do you have any go to organizing tips? How do you store your beauty products?
