Better than the OG? Dior Lip Glow Oil Review With Swatches

My love for the Dior Lip Glows has been consistent ever since I tried them back in 2017. At the end of last month, they released a new product to the line— the Dior Lip Glow Oils. As a self-professed Dior Lip Glow addict, I naturally ordered 2 to see if they could live up to high bar set by the original lip glows.

PS I’m going to try to do more of these shorter blog posts!

Price & Availability

$34.00 for 6 mL of product via Sephora, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, & Dior

Packaging

These come in little plastic tubes with a screw on lid. The doe foot applicator is large— similar to the Clarins lip oils. I like the applicator cause a) it’s large so I don’t have to keep dipping back into the tube to get more product and b) it doesn’t pick up so much product that it gets messy/ sloppy.

Scent

Thankfully light. It smells slightly of vanilla +mint but it’s not overwhelming. It’s the same scent as the original lip glows.

Colors

There are 6 permanent shades and two newer limited edition shades. The permanent range has creamy, sheer shades and the limited edition shades have shimmer to them. I picked up two shades— rosewood and raspberry. Rosewood is a warm brown shade and raspberry is a light pink shade.

I have darker lips so often times sheer products don’t translate well on me. Unfortunately, the two shades I picked up look pretty similar on the lips. They aren’t as pigmented as the original lip glows.

Texture

Not too heavy, not too sticky, it feels like a gloss. On the lips it feels like a thicker lip balm or vaseline. When I smack my lips, they don’t stick together. I’ve heard some people say they feel rubbery on the lips but I haven’t experienced this.

A little bit of a side rant: I think beauty companies have come out with these “lip oils” because lip gloss has a connotation for being thicker and stickier. So by saying lip oil, they’re trying to bypass the stigma that comes with lip glosses. Also, it may be a ploy to make us buy more products cause we have lip glosses but not lip oils 🤔 Anyways, the texture on these are similar to other “lip oils” that are semi-recent to the market— the Kosas Wet Lip Oil Gloss, Clarins Lip Comfort Oil, and Lilah B Tinted Lip Oil.

How Do They Wear?

Nice and long-lasting! If I’m not eating or drinking anything, I can easily get a few hours of wear out of these. And even when I do eat and drink, they don’t instantly fade away. Even after drinking a cup of coffee, my lips are still hydrated and left with a little bit of the lip oil. My lips have been extra dry lately, and I like that these provide long-lasting moisture. It also doesn’t emphasize or cling to the cracks or lines in my lips.

Vs. Dior Lip Glows

The ultimate question: how do these compare to my beloved Dior Lip Glow? They’re good… but not as good as the original Lip Glows. I prefer the original Lip Glows for a few reasons. One, they’re thinner but still provide long lasting moisture. Second, they have a stronger tint to them and when they fade, they leave a tint. The lip oils are sheerer in color. As mentioned above, I have darker lips so the difference between the shades on the lip oils aren’t really visible on my lips. Third, I can layer the original Lip Glows over other products easily because they come in stick form. Because the Lip Glow Oils come with a wand and are in a liquid form, I am wary about contaminating them by applying it above lipsticks.

Vs. Kosas Wet Lip Oil Glosses, Clarins Lip Comfort Oils, & Lilah B Tinted Lip Oils

I will say, I like them more than the Kosas Wet Oil Lip Glosses because those have a teeny applicator and don’t last as long. They are pretty on par with the Clarins Comfort Lip Oils, although I would say the Dior ones are a little less sticky. I’ve also had issues with the Clarins ones going bad around the 6 month mark. We shall see how the Dior ones last! And lastly to compare them to the Lilah B Tinted Lip Oils, the Lilah B ones are definitely more pigmented. They can be built up to full opacity. They’re also a thicker formula and can be a bit messy during application. But they do last really well throughout the day and through meals, providing long lasting comfort.
