Wispy Lashes: Honest Beauty Extreme Length Mascara + Lash Primer Review
This post is sponsored by Honest Beauty and InfluenceHer Collective
Whenever I share a GRWM on Instagram, I usually get a few messages asking “why don’t you wear mascara??” My answer: most mascaras clump up and weigh down my lashes, and those that don’t are usually the most stubborn, waterproof formulas which are kind of a pain to wash off. Over the past few months though, I’ve found a few mascaras that are an exception! One of those being this Honest Beauty Extreme Length Mascara + Lash Primer.
If you’re unfamiliar with Honest Beauty, they’re an LA-based, clean beauty brand founded by Jessica Alba. They’re cruelty free, formulated without synthetic fragrance, and are generally affordable for a “green” beauty brand. This was my first foray into the brand but I will definitely explore more in the future!
Price & Availability
6.0 mL Mascara + 2.0 mL Lash Primer for $14.99 via Honest Beauty as well as Target, Amazon, & Walgreens
Claims
This mascara claims to deliver on definition, volume, and length. It’s meant to separate lashes, and build definition without clumping. The primer claims to help with adding length and staying power.
Packaging
The mascara is encased in plastic and double sided. One side has the primer and one side has the mascara. The primer wand is made out of bristles whereas the mascara wand is made out of plastic. I’ve only been using the mascara for around ~3 weeks, but so far I have not faced any issues with this mascara or primer clumping around the bristles.
Scent
Kind of weird, but I have had perfumey mascaras before. All Honest Beauty products are formulated without synthetic fragrance, and this is no exception. This doesn’t really smell like anything.
How I Use It
I have the straightest lashes known to mankind and always, so prior to using this I curl my lashes with a heated curler (this helps keep it curled for longer.) After curling my lashes, I’ll apply the primer to the ends of my lashes. Sometimes, I’ll add a few layers because it’s fun to see my lashes becoming instantly longer 👀Then, I let the primer dry on my lashes for 30 seconds, as recommended by Honest Beauty, before applying the mascara. Lastly, I apply the mascara, sometimes adding an extra coat or two on the ends of my lashes to lengthen them.
Results
Definition, volume, and length— I think the mascara delivers on all three. The primer, specifically helps in adding length and definition. Then the mascara finishes things up with volume. The mascara wears well throughout the day without flaking or smudging, even though it is not waterproof. I’m not into the thick, clump mascara vibe and much prefer a more natural look. Thankfully this primer + mascara duo fits my tastes.
It’s also easy to remove. Either a micellar water or oil based cleanser works best. With waterproof mascaras, I need to use a micellar water and an oil cleanser and sometimes even waterproof eye makeup remover is necessary after all that. This can easily be removed with just one cleanse.
Because my lashes are straight, I do have to make sure to use an eyelash curler beforehand. I will use my hair dryer to heat my up curler (just hold it under the hair dryer for a few seconds) to make the curl last extra long.
Alternative Uses
I’m not sure how I ended up here, but this past week I wore the primer end on on my brows prior to using a tinted brow gel. It adds so much volume and does an amazing job at keeping them pushed up throughout the day!
