The One With The Body Care Products | Dresser Diaries Volume VI

Whenever I talk about body care products or hair care products, I always mention how I never talk about either of those types of products. So here's a post on body care products... a category of products I never talk about ๐Ÿ’

Frank Body Original Coffee Body Scrub (PR Gift)

Price & Size: 200 g for $17-$20 available via Urban Outfitters, Ulta, ASOS, Frank Body, & Amazon

Ingredients: Coffea Robusta Seed Powder (Coffee), Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Water (Aqua), Sodium Chloride (Salt), Sucrose (Brown Sugar), Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Benzyl Alcohol (Cinnamon Derived). Total Naturally Derived: 100%

For the longest time, I thought coffee scrubs and skinny teas were one in the same thing. I know it sounds dumb but they're both packaged in those brown, paper bags soooo I made that leap. And in my defense, when coffee scrubs were first gaining popularity many of them did claim to get rid of cellulite.

But since it's 2017 I finally decided to try out the (in?)famous body coffee scrubs when Frank Body reached out.

And I can now say I get why they're hyped.

Besides for the whole instagramability of it all, the scrub works. My skin is softer after using it and is left a bit moisturized thanks to the sweet almond oil (but not as moisturized as one of the other scrubs I'm mentioning down below.) Plus it smells like a dark cup of coffee and wakes you right up!

My one issue with it is the packaging. It's cute and iconic and all... but it's a bit impractical. I don't like using it in the bath because I need to strategically contort my body to make sure my body isn't in the water when I apply it otherwise it will all wash away. And when I use it in the shower, I have to be careful to not to get the bag all wet. I think I'm going to end up decanting it into an old Talenti jar and all will be good!

Harry's Winston Razor (PR Gift)

Price & Size: $20 on its own, $25 in a set with 2 extra blades & shaving gel, $8 for 4 replacement blades via Target

Razors aren't something I give much thought to. I buy the same Venus razor gift set every year at Target during the holidays that I use throughout the year. I usually procrastinate repurchasing the razor blades because they're so. freakin. expensive ๐Ÿ˜ค

While the Truman is a bit on the pricey side, the razor blades are affordable that it offsets the cost. In addition, they also have their Truman razor which is only $10 and comes with two blades.

I've been using the razor for about two months now and it's still sharp! I'm not sure what else there is to say about a razor? It's sharp and it shaves? The end?

My favorite part of this razor is that they don't have some bullshit pink version that's $5 more expensive and *exclusively* made for females.

Dr. Bronner's Lavendar Organic Shaving Soap

Price & Size: 7 fl. oz for $8-9 available via Vitacost, Amazon, in stores at Whole Foods & Harmon's (aka the beauty section of Bed, Bath, & Beyond)

Ingredients: Organic sucrose*, organic white grape juice, organic coconut oil*, organic palm kernel oil*, potassium hydroxideโ€ , organic olive oil*, organic shikakai powder, organic hemp oil, organic jojoba oil, organic lavender oil, xanthan gum, citric acid, tocopherol. *Certified Fair Trade Ingredients โ€ None remains after saponifying oils into soap and glycerin

A couple of months ago I learned that shaving your face was a thing. Seems obvious, right? Anyways it was a game changer for me. Unfortunately, I'm #blessed with plenty of facial hair along my jawline and cheeks and it's been somewhat of an annoyance, especially when I want to wear a full face of makeup.

I tried a few typical foaming shaving creams I had around my house but they all irritated the skin on my cheeks. I also tried using moisturizers/ gels as moisturizers which worked to an extent... but it wasn't very cost effective. Enter this shaving gel.

It isn't like your typical foaming shaving gel but instead has a thick, somewhat runny texture. It still protects my skin when shaving, helps the blade run along, and best of all doesn't irritate or dry out my skin. It emulsifies and washes off quite well although I prefer to use a gentle oil cleanser afterward to make sure that no residue is left over.

Packaging wise it isn't ideal. It separates a bit in the bottle and there's a reservoir of residue that accumulates in the cap. It doesn't affect the efficacy of the shaving gel but I do have to be careful not to get the residue all over my hands and/or clothes when I open the bottle.

Palermo Body Tea Tree + Grapefruit Detox Body Scrub (PR Gift)

Price & Size: 8.4 oz for $48 or 2 oz for $14 available via Palermo Body, Neiman Marcus, Follain, the Stell, Goop, & Anthropologie

Ingredients: * Sea Salt, **Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Olive Fruit Oil, Avocado Oil, *Sea Clay, ** Seaweed, *Pumice, Poppy Seeds, ***Vitamin E Oil, Rosemary Extract, Tea Tree Leaf Oil, Grapefruit Oil *Wild Harvested **Organic ***Non GMO

I admit I have a soft spot for Palermo Body products since they're locally made in Brooklyn. If you watch their Instagram stories sometimes they show behind the scenes on how the products are made which I always find fascinating to watch.

Onto the scrub itself!

This is a heavy duty scrub. It's quite abrasive and you don't need to vigorously scrub to use it. My mom borrowed it when she spotted it in the shower and she ended up scratching herself because she was aggressively rubbing it in. I've personally never had such an incident *knocks on wood*

It does have a strong tea tree scent, which is a good or bad thing depending on if you like tea tree. Either way it doesn't matter much as the scent doesn't linger and disappears after you wash it off.

There are two reasons why I love the scrub: 1 because it leaves my skin super soft and super hydrated (I mean look at those ingredients-- shea butter + oils galore) and 2 because it helps with bacne (aka acne on yo back.) I've been using it in combination with the Mario Badescu A.H.A. botanical body soap and the combo has been great at tackling my bacne, light chicken skin on my upper arms, and patches of eczema on my legs (I'm a mess ๐Ÿ˜‚)

One thing to keep it mind with this body is scrub is to not use directly after shaving because it will sting the fuck out of your skin. Instead I'll usually use it the day before shaving that way I'll be left with silky soft legs post shaving โœจ

Harper + Ari Peach Exfoliating Sugar Cubes (PR Gift)

Price & Size: 16 oz for $22 available via Harper + Ari (with free shipping!), Shen Beauty, & Eva Maison

Out of everything in this post, I think this wins the award for cutest bodycare product!

These are exfoliators (for your bod) in the shape of an extra large sugar cube. They're incredibly easy to use and travel friendly. I like that I can easily pinch it in half and use half at a time if I fancy. When I use half I'm still able to scrub down both my legs and stomach + chest area. They're also very gentle and don't make a mess.

If you don't like exfoliating because you find it too messy and time consuming, this is a product to check out.

Fig + Yarrow Pink Love Salts (PR Gift)

Price & Size: 16 oz for $32 available via Fig + Yarrow, Amazon, & other in store at stockists-- full list found on their site

Ingredients: Himalayan pink salt, essential oils of: Cananga odorata (ylang ylang), Pogostemon cablin (patchouli), Citrus bergamia (bergamot), Citrus sinensis (orange), Pelargonium graveolens (geranium bourbon)

This stuff smells amazing... but that's about it. I admit I don't fully understand bath salts, is that all they do? Smell good?

I'm not sure I would if I would repurchase this or not. On one hand I'm not above buying things simply because they smell good-- perfumes, candles, those downy unstoppable laundry scent thingies. On the other hand there are other ways to experience a fancy smelling bath like bath bombs and bubble bath (although I haven't used the latter in years.) On a third hand that's supporting the first hand, the bath salts are cheaper/ use in comparison to bath bombs and the scent is much more potent than bath bombs and bubble baths.

I fully enjoy the relaxing experience of using these salts but only time will tell if I will repurchase them or not.
