A Study in Pink | Becca Blushed With Light Palette Review

I wasn't sure if I was going to review this Becca palette since it's limited edition and sold out on both the Ulta and Sephora website... but I got a few requests so what the hell. If you're still interested in it it's available online at Beautylish and Lord & Taylor. I've also seen a few in stores at my local Ulta so you might have luck finding one at an Ulta or Sephora near you.

I picked this up as an impulse purchase on Black Friday when it was 50% off. Read on to find out if I found it worth it or not!

May Contain [+/-]: Iron Oxides, Titanium Oxide, Red 30 Lake, Red 7 Lake, Yellow 5 Lake, Carmine

Packaging
The packaging is so pretty but still compact. It's a sleek plastic case with a nicely sized mirror. The palette can be completely opened and laid flat. I also like the hinge has some stiffness to it, so it's easy to prop up the mirror without worrying that it's going to flop over.

It snaps close and there's a little indentation making it easy to open.

I do wish the pans were a bit further apart from each other because the blushes cause some kick up when I swish my brush in them. But it isn't a big deal since I can easily wipe the excess powder away.

Color Selection
The palette includes 3 shades: Wisteria described as a matte soft rose, Songbird described as a shimmering peach, and Snapdragon described as a luminous coral. Wisteria is a limited edition shade while Songbird and Snapdragon are both permanent shades available as full sized blushes.

I really like the colors as I think they're wearable for a wide variety of skin tones. Wisteria is probably too light for darker skintones but I still think it works well on medium to medium dark skintones.

Pigmentation
The pigmentation on all three blushes is awesome. At the same time I think it's easy to apply them very lightly and naturally. In my swatches I built them up very heavily so they work at both ends of the spectrum-- heavy and light.

Wisteria and Songbird are mineral blush formulas whereas Snapdragon is a luminous blush which I guess is Becca's way of marketing it as a blush topper. While it is sheerer than the other two, it can also be easily built up.

Finish wise Wisteria is matte, Songbird has a bit of a sheen to it, and Snapdragon has a teeny bit more of a sheen than Songbird. Chunky glittery blushes aren't my thang so I'm happy to say these truly are as naturally "luminous" as Becca claims them to be. The sheen in them is very natural and even when I built them up, there was no chunky glitteriness.

In my face swatch of Songbird you can see that it reflects/ highlights more so than the other two blushes. But again, no chunky glitteriness in sight.

Swatches
In my finger swatches the left swatch is the built up version and the right swatch is a one swipe swatch.

For the swatches on ma face, I built up the blush a lot more than I would usually wear. Partly cause I've been inspired by blush draping, but mostly because taking photos of my face is not my forte and I had to really build them up to be visible on camera (which is due to my lack of photography skills, not because of a lack of pigmentation in the blushes.) Even so the blushes are even more pigmented in real life than in my photos.

All the face swatches were done with a MAC 168 brush.

Blendability
At some point during the last month I picked up the tip that applying powder products (like blush or bronzer) after you set your base with setting powder will make blending a whole lot easier. I wish I knew where I picked up this tip because it's been a game changer for me.

Overall this blush blends well, but it blends even better when you set apply it atop your setting powder.

Wearability
Wearability is very subjective but I find all three of these shades surprisingly wearable. They look a bit intimidating in the pan but I think they look really gorgeous when sheered out. Like I mentioned up above, I think the colors work on a wide variety of skintones.

Bottom Line
I'm really happy with this impulse purchase. Although I paid $17 for it, I would buy it again at $34. I like the variety of colors and the fact that they're all useable to me. The shimmery shades aren't chunky or glittery but instead provide the perfect amount of sheen. The packaging is both practical and beautiful.
