Tonymoly Holiday My Shea Sheet Mask Box Review | Blogmas Day 14
As a total sucker for both Christmassy packaging and sheet masks, of course I had to snatch these Tonymoly Holiday sheet masks up when I spotted them at my local Ulta (...and an extra for an upcoming giveaway π)
I had initially planned on reviewing each mask individually and even took photos of myself using each mask. But after I reviewed my notes I realized that they were nearly indistinguishable from each other so instead I will be reviewing them as a whole.
Price
$7.50 for 5 masks but Tonymoly is included in Ulta's coupons. When I purchased it they had a 20% off coupon so I paid $6 before tax. Considering that Tonymoly's I'm Real Masks retail for $3.75 a pop at Ulta I would say the set is a good value.
They're sold out on the Ulta website but you can still find them in stores. Alternatively you can order them from Korea Depart here where they're less than $4 before shipping!
Ingredients
Here's where things start to get a little tricky. On the Ulta website there's only one ingredient list available, but each mask should have a different ingredient list since they each have different active ingredients. There is a possibility that the ingredient list is on the box...except it's in Korean.
There's some text on the box in Korean that could be the ingredient list but could also be something else. Either way, it ain't translated in English. And I'm not gonna lie, that annoyed me a bit. If I'm buying a product solely meant for a Korean audience I don't care/ mind if there's no English. But Ulta is a huuuuuge American retailer, and Tonymoly has a reasonable presence in the US. Both companies were aiming to sell this product to thousands of people who probably don't speak a lick of Korean. There should be an English ingredient list.
The masks came in 5 different "flavors." There's snail extract, collagen, hyaluronic acid, aloe, and plain ol' shea butter.
Unfortunately since the set is sold out the Ulta page for it isn't loading, so I can't even share the previously available ingredient list π If I do find it tomorrow I will update this post!
Mask Material
The masks were thinner than your typical cotton mask. On the plus side this made it a bit easier to mesh with the shape of my face. On the downside because it was so thin it seemed like the essence was sitting on the mask, instead of being absorbed on it. As a result the masks were a bit drippy.
Fit
While I would say that the fit of the mask was an improvement from the I'm Real Makgeolli mask I reviewed last week, it still wasn't stellar. The mouth hole was realllly big and I couldn't quite get the mask to truly lie flat on my face. But even though I do have those complaints, I would still the fit is okay. Not great but not terrible.
Essence
I am happy to say that unlike the Tonymoly I'm Real Makgeolli mask that I reviewed last week, none of these masks contain mineral oil so I did not break out from any of these π
The essence was sorta milky looking but it was very watery and lightweight. None of the masks had particularly strong scents but I should note that I don't think I'm very sensitive to scents to begin with. I really liked that none of the essences were sticky!
Results
I tried these masks with both a silicone cover and without a silicone cover... and either way I couldn't get them to last for more than 15 minutes. I know the directions state to leave the mask for 10-15 minutes but I usually like using them for at least 30 minutes.
By the time I was ready to take off the mask the edges all dried up, even when I used a silicone cover! Perhaps this is a side effect of it being so thin?
Like I said up above, none of these sheets made my face feel sticky. They sunk in pretty quickly and I was able to put on my moisturizer within 10 minutes. They gave me a nice dewy look which is the minimum I expect from any sheet mask.
Morning after?
Unfortunately none of the masks left me with particularly dewy skin the day after. My skin was almost the same as if I hadn't used the mask at all.
I will say that after 5 straight days of masking, there was an overall positive effect on my skin. So I guess even though the individual masks didn't necessarily leave a huge impact, as a collective whole they helped hydrate my skin in the long run.
the Bottom Line
Overall I would say I'm happy with my purchase. They may not be out of this world amazing but I enjoyed them enough to think they're worth the $7.50 price tag. I liked that they fit decently, had an immediately hydrating effect, didn't leave my skin sticky, and didn't break me out. Also extra points for coming in cute holiday packaging π
On an unrelated note, tomorrow marks the Blogmas halfway point π It's nothing short of a miracle that I've made it this far (#dramallamaconfessions)
