India I: tourist attire

Hello, namashkar. I'm officially back from India. The past three weeks have been one long blur of sweets, street markets, sari shopping, endless mosquito bites, and sweltering heat. All while wearing my might-as-well-be-official uniform of birks + maxis and snapping a hundred quadrillion photos.

While taking these hundred quadrillion photos I didn't really have blogging in mind, so I'm not sure how I'll be organizing the ones I want to post. To take it one day at a time, literally, here are a group of photos from a day in Kolkata. Sometime in the afternoon we went to the Victoria Memorial and roamed around its gardens. Thanks to my mom for taking these shots of me there!

On the way home we stopped by Balaram Mullick & Radharaman Mullick-- a popular (and delicious) sweet store. They had everything from classic bengali sweets, such as a colorful assortment of sandesh, to various cakes, to kulfi! While I didn't try any of their cakes/ non-Indian desserts, I can attest that all the sweets we bought were quickly devoured within a day or two.

Later that night, we had dinner at Fire & Ice, an Italian restaurant located off of Russel St. I've never been to Italy so I can't really say I've eaten 100% authentic Italian food, but I think growing up in Jerz and eating at countless Italian joints in NYC means my taste buds are well acquainted with the cuisine. While the food at this restaurant was good, I would not say it was authentic by any means. But if you happen to be in Kolkata, and have an Italian food craving, it's a solid choice.
