tan-go à gogo

With Valentino's Fall-Winter 2013 collection making it's debut earlier this summer in Paris, it seemed appropriate to rewind a year. No argument here that the clothes are breathtakingly beautiful, but let's take a look at those shoes! Beautiful as well, but more of an understated beauty from their simplicity. As I may have mentioned before, I am neither a student nor aficionado of fashion, but reading blogs on the daily has exposed me to some "haute couture." Still, all I can say when I see those shoes is "my precciooouuus. Gollum." Plus, Alexa Chung wore them. Automatic cool factor.

Personally, the ever so popular rockstud heels don't appeal to me, partly cause I just don't like kitten heels, aka the most common form of the shoe that I've seen. If you were to ask me a year or two ago what I thought about any shorter heel, I would reply with something along the lines of go big or go home. Have to say that shorter, thicker heels have grown on me as a whole, cause they're easier to walk in but still have the whole heel making your legs longer or whatever -- which clearly I can't articulate, but hopefully you know what I'm talkin' 'bout. Then add in the ankle strap, which has been enjoying the spotlight for some time now. Basically, I would call Valentino's tan-go the modernized version of a mary jane type shoe, proper for a big girl.

But as a 20 year old college student, I don't forsee myself being able to afford a pair of Valentino shoes in my near... or distant future. But that doesn't mean that I can't admire them ;)
